Went to watch TMNT again as well as Meet the Robinsons with a few friends.
I did watch TMNT and Happily N'ever After with [livejournal.com profile] arccie last week and loved the TMNT movie so much, I went to watch it again. Happily Never After on the other hand was sort of painful to watch and we'll leave it at that.

TMNT
It starts out in Central America in the jungle, where the bad are robbing a village.....yada yada yada....and they seem like they're about to get away with it when the Ghost Legend of the Jungle seems to manifest and acts like mysterious shadow returning the stuff to the village. I had a bit of a Predator moment to be honest...the bit where they disappear...but anyway. April appears not as a journalist but as some sort of Indiana Jones treasure hunter. It's through her talk with Leo (the supposed ghost) that opens the story and the montage of scenes of the other main characters.
Plot goes on as Winters, a rich tycoon, collects stone statues and revives them to enact his plan to break his curse of immortality. Monsters, tons of fight scenes and funny gags litter the movie. The Foot Clan is also involved but I'm too lazy to elaborate. Although I have to say, Kurai's companion foot soldier is hilarious even though he's silent. It ends with Winters accomplishing his plan albeit with a bit of help and the revelation that he's actually a good guy.

To be honest this has to be one of the coolest movies I've seen in a while. Despite the glaringly obvious changes in some of the characters and Splinter's shocking accent, I fell in love with the characters again. In the introduction part where all the characters get eyecatches, I literally had a squee moment when Leo appeared and a doki-doki kyaaaa moment when Raph appeared. I blame the eyes. They were so well animated and I loved that the turtles weren't made uniform and there were nuances in their faces that made them differ from one another. A teensy bit disappointed that Donatello and Mikey didn't get to appear in any significant role other than comic relief but the Leo-Raph angsty byplay while old was still riveting.

Meet the Robinsons
Another interesting movie. It started off pretty slowly and picked up towards the middle. Another lazy explanation...Lewis an orphan, in his quest to have a family eventually decides to find his mum but ends up travelling to the future and acquainting himself with the Robinsons. The insanity of the family is absolutely hilarious. Eventually it is revealed that that is Lewis' family and his eventual son became his friend....so on so forth. There's a bit later that has him meeting his future self. A bit of a paradox that part. Science fiction and Harry Potter would choose to disagree. In the end he chooses not to find his mother and finds a family of his own.
A sweet and nice feel-good story complete with an absolutely hilariously stupid villain controlled by a robotic hat who wants to go in the past to destroy its creator.

Other than that, I haven't gotten up to very much the past week, other than cram for my Psych test and finish assignments.
Ooh...SMASH meeting this Sat...note to self, must remember to pick up sugar Krispy Kreme donuts to fortify us during the uber long meeting.
