More thoughts on ST

Pimping a link that
noxie shared that was too amusing not to.
Do Gay Martians Have the Right to Marry?
I think the Star Trek reboot has been the first fandom to really tempt me to get back into writing. Unfortunately my memory of canon is kind of sketchy, so I'd need to find the time to watch TOS again.
I kind of had a thought about some of the cultural implications that might result from the reboot. How would the impact of Vulcan's destruction have on their endangered society? Would it mean their society would become more tolerant of inter-racial relationships? Since some of fanon's pon farr is based on empathetic bonds, how would the bond be affected by the dominant notion of heterosexual couplings? Would they become more focused on reproduction and their scientific advancements reflect that? Or would they become more insular as a society to try and preserve what they had left? Also, what would this mean for the power balance in the Federation?
